Shaping a Brighter Future for Teens
From Initiative to Impact: Empowering Teens in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex
The YES (Youth Expecting Success) Program (for teens ages 13-18 years old enrolled in home, public, private, or charter schools) was initially started in 2000 as an initiative, in partnership with Central Dallas Ministries (now CitySquare), to address teen pregnancy and high school dropout rates in the inner-city community of East Dallas.
In the last 23 years, the program has expanded its curriculum items to include:
College readiness (SAT and ACT preparation, reading and math improvement), etiquette and grooming, money management, career development, sex education (“You A Worth Waiting For”), drug and alcohol abuse prevention, health and wellness, community service, and college tours. The program normally is conducted from January to May each year.

Impact
The YES Program has served over 300 teens since 2000 with all but two finishing high school; 91% of those youth attending universities were first-generation college attendees:
- Over 80% of Y.E.S. teens have attended higher education
- 54% of the students attended either junior college or universities
- 26% have graduated from college
- 9% have completed advanced degrees
- 5% have attended or completed trade schools or pursuing military careers
